“Something About Latex Is Deeply Addictive” – Interview With KinkFox

Special Thanks To

There’s an unexplainable feeling of happiness which comes from a dispatch email with info for your new latex order. I’ll put it in the same realm as that Christmas morning feeling as a kid. It’s a cliche example but one that’s easily understood among kinksters. The production time and process for latex is a long and grueling affair but once it arrives I’m never too beat up about it.

I’ve spoken before about my many rituals when new latex arrives. I have the overwhelming urge to wear it immediately, which sadly isn’t always possible. I’m like a bear to honey. If the honey is a £200 sex suit. There’s an intense odour that comes from freshly manufactured rubber that always riles me up. It smells so deeply industrial, a scent that I’ve come to associate with a feeling of lustful excitement.

Since I order all my rubber with a dry powder finish, I ceremoniously dunk the new latex into a bucket of clean water and then another now filled with vivishine. It’s a kind of fetishistic baptism, I like to think. The water is always warm so the smell of the latex completely fills the room. After the soaking, everything is hung up to dry for a few hours.

Finally after the intense preparation, it’s ready for wearing. Slick with lube, the glossy surface is just begging to be pulled over oiled-up skin. It calls to me in a language only fetishists can speak fluently. I’ve experienced this with every new suit in my extensive, rubber wardrobe.

This ritual was recently repeated with two recent purchases from the latex maker, KinkFox. When I unpackaged both orders a feeling overcame me which I can only describe as a feeling latex-focused delirium. I’d been eyeing up both suits for a long time and to have them materialise in real life was like quenching an intense thirst during a long day in the sun.

There was such a pleasant nature to our discussions on the designs that I wanted to learn more. After a few exchanges, I was delighted to speak to them directly about challenges, passions, desires and why they do what they do.

First off, thanks so much for making the time. I’m sure you’re extremely busy! I wanted to start with a general question about what fuels KinkFox. There are many elements to latex which attracts people to it, the visual appeal, smell, feel and transformation. Why do you work with latex and what do you love about it?

There’s so many things to love about it! Not just how it looks but how it feels covering your whole body.  Latex doesn’t behave like other materials. It does something so extreme to the body (and mind) and that change is really interesting for us. There’s a huge transformation while wearing latex that you don’t get with other fabrics.

Although it’s not all sunshines and rainbows. Working with latex can be a tough job. It’s a material that constantly throws challenges your way, especially when it comes to crafting. But there’s a great sense of accomplishment when you’re able to master it. When you design a latex outfit and watch it come together into reality, it’s a really amazing feeling.

So there’s a lot to love about latex really. At the same time, there’s also a great community of latex lovers and we’re always thankful for that. It’s easy to engage creatively with them. There’s such raw individuality that we’ve seen and that’s something really exciting when it comes to crafting designs for our customers.

You spoke briefly about latex being a challenging material to work with. What would you say are some of the biggest hurdles that latex manufacturers face, and how do you plan to overcome them?

As you might expect, consistency and quality control are constant challenges. As we’ve said already, latex is a demanding material that requires skill, patience, and experience when it comes to making garments.

Because of this we are motivated to step up our game. We’re continuing to refine our core designs while expanding into more experimental pieces. To push KinkFox further and further each time. It is not a simple task but we’ve been focusing on advanced construction techniques and new silhouettes.

We’re always learning, exploring and pushing boundaries within our workshop. It’s helped us to overcome a lot very quickly in our history, so we really believe in keeping this essence as we continue to grow.

It isn’t  surprising that rising material costs and the time-intensive nature of handmade production with latex also makes it very difficult. But for us, maintaining quality is non-negotiable and we explore every possible way to keep this a priority.

That’s really amazing to hear and it sounds like there’s a lot of determination to overcome those challenging obstacles. Can I ask, aside from navigating these difficulties, what do you think makes KinkFox unique from other latex brands?

We like to think that the items speak for themselves. Fit, comfort, and craftsmanship always come first, and we take pride in delivering pieces that feel personal rather than mass-produced. We also focus heavily on structure and precision when beginning all of our projects.

Some designs obviously have a lot more components to them, but we’re not interested in just focusing on elaborate designs to attract attention. Our aim is to treat every item, no matter its simplicity, size, fit or style to feel like it’s created with passion. An item is no good if the seam fails straight away, so we want to make sure the structure and panels are effective to make the item last as long as possible.

Another thing we feel is unique is our commitment to work closely with our customers. Whether something is a standard piece from our store, or a custom order, we want to treat each project as a collaboration. The communication is always open. We’re always here to listen to what our customers want and try our best to deliver that every time. We’re always just a message away!

It’s fantastic to know you’re so connected to latex fans. I know that for a lot of people, purchasing a suit that’s a skintight fit is really important. What advice would you give to customers on choosing the right size for them?

The most important thing is making sure you have accurate measurements. We always recommend people to measure themselves carefully without pulling the tape too tight. Or alternatively getting someone else to take the measurements for you, especially ones that are hard to reach.

If you’re between sizes or unsure, communication is key (like we said before!) Always feel free to reach out to us before you place an order. Different bodies come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and we know how important it is to receive a well-fitted latex suit or garment that should feel like a second skin.

Something that latex-wearers might also know is latex should feel snug but not restrictive. When latex is too tight it can cause problems and lead to tears and rips. So it’s about balancing the ability to move naturally while still giving that signature sculpted look.

For anyone that’s interested, we also offer a made-to-measure service and customers can follow our made-to-measure guide on our site to get an even greater and hugging-fit in latex. It’s perfect for people who don’t match our standard sizes. Any questions, just ask us!

I recently received a custom design from KinkFox and I was blown away by its quality and detail based on what I’d requested. Do you have any advice for kinksters who have a custom design in mind?

Thank you so much, we’re glad that you love it! In terms of advice, making sure that you have a clear idea of what you want is the first main step. We do our best to advise but customers need to know what they want us to do before we can start drawing up plans. It’s good to be open to professional input. Sometimes what looks good in a sketch needs some adjusting to work properly, especially with a material like latex.

Have as many reference images that you can and explain how you want the piece to feel. What kind of fit do you want? Is the colour correct? Are there any specifics that you need? Don’t assume that we can read anyone’s mind. It’s important to say everything that you want no matter how minor it might feel. There’s only a short window to get it right.

Overall though it’s important that there’s a level of trust in our experience and what we advise. This will lead to a better result in the end. A successful custom design is a balance between creative vision and technical reality! A basic rule but a very important one.

You already hinted at it a little, but I’d love to find out more about your process from start to finish when creating a new latex suit or accessory?

It all starts with creating the concept and sketching this out. This can start quite loose as we work things out before we move onto creating a panel layout. This can be the most challenging part of the process but it pays off later down the line. We always do our best to perfect this part. We plan the panel layout carefully as we want to make sure that we’re hitting the balance between aesthetics and wearability.

From there, we take it one step further and refine the pattern so that we know exactly how the latex needs to be cut. We look through our stock of latex thickness and color and make our selections based on the design. After that we’re ready to move onto the next phase, the construction.

This begins with strict attention to detail, the latex is cut, glued and the garment is slowly assembled. Depending on the level of intricacy it can take anywhere between 1-2 days to a full week, or perhaps even more.

The last, and most important step in the process, is a quality check. Our team makes sure that every item has clean seams, proper tension and, of course, a flawless finish. Before anything leaves our workshop this is something we focus on massively.

You mentioned KinkFox has a stock of different latex colours and thicknesses. What latex colors would you recommend customers should definitely try out?

Black is always the most popular, as you might expect. It’s always been a big draw for a lot of latex fans. It’s also the color that has the widest options of thicknesses with 0.25, 0.6, and even 1mm. There’s something that’s very attractive about black latex, especially with the reflections when polished.

That said, I encourage customers to explore deep reds, as you have the same effect when shined up but with a really vibrant color. There’s also things like a smoky grey, olive tone, and metallic shades, that have become more popular over recent years. Color can completely change the personality of a suit, and latex is one of the few materials where bold choices truly shine.

One final thing to try out is our different collections of transparent colors in grey, blue or purple, especially as panels on a suit. It’s a fantastic way of getting a window into the body underneath the latex!

It’s a deeply thrilling moment when a new latex item arrives in the mail. What do you want customers to feel when they wear your latex items for the first time?

It’s a simple answer really, confidence and excitement! When customers first try on our latex and they feel it pressing against their body they should feel empowered by it. It’s understandable that there might be a lot of patience that’s needed when you place an order and wait for the item to arrive. So we strive to make sure customers are far from disappointed and are overjoyed when they first open the fresh packaging.

We want customers to feel like a new version of themselves when they step into a KinkFox garment. It’s a fantastic gift to be able to create confidence in someone through what they wear. We want people to express this, and who they are, without compromise. As we said earlier, there’s so much individuality within the community and it’s great that we can create something to mark that.

It’s wonderful that you recognise so much individuality within the kink world. I’m sure it’s what leads to a lot of obscure, fetishistic designs. For example I’ve seen that you’ve recently released an Inflatable Blueberry suit. How did this idea come to light and was it a challenge to design and construct this?

Yes, it was quite ambitious and we wanted to see how latex could be pushed beyond traditional silhouettes that you get with something like a plain catsuit. The idea originated from those who are fans of balloon play. Inflatable designs pose a specific challenge with construction and balancing aesthetics and engineering.

There were difficulties that we had to overcome to get an airtight construction. There’s a need for extreme precision when working on items like this.  With the vast size once inflated, as you can imagine, it’s a lot of latex too. However, we’re really proud of the results and the payoff was certainly really rewarding. Seeing it come to life was incredibly satisfying!

It’s something that goes really well with vibrant colours since it’s so eye-catching. Once pumped full with air, it really changes the body in such an extreme way. It’ll expand to pretty extraordinary proportions given how flexible the outer layer can be. Inside the body feels pressed on all sides as the latex expands too.

I often receive questions from people who’ve never worn latex before asking what it’s like. What would you say to someone who hasn’t worn latex before but is interested in trying it?

Latex can absolutely feel intimidating, there’s no denying that. It’s expensive, fragile and requires a lot of care, compared to other materials. It’s understandable why so many people admire it from a distance but are nervous to try it.

Start off with something simple like a hood or shorts to get a feel for it. You may be surprised by how comfortable it is compared to what you would expect. Don’t rush into it. A small minority of people also have a latex allergy so it’s a good idea to test this out with an inexpensive item first.

Anyone who has worn latex before, especially with items that have a tight fit, will tell you to choose the right dressing aid that works for you. Many latex fans use silicone lubricants or talc. It all depends on your preference.

There’s something about latex which is deeply addictive. Once you start you can be hooked for life, but of course this is in the best possible way!

I completely agree with latex being deeply addictive! It’s certainly been the case for me. We’re almost wrapped up but I’d love to ask you one final thing which is what’s next on the horizon for KinkFox?

Things are always moving for us. As we said already we’re continuing to revisit and perfect our core designs so this is a big focus for us moving forward. Adapting these and always thinking how we can take them a step up.

Alongside that we’re always experimenting, playing with new ideas and expanding into new and exciting designs. There’s so much inspiration around so it’s about how to harness that. We’re always looking at our processes and techniques too and where we can improve. We don’t like standing in one place so we’re always moving.

To add, we’re also pushing to deepen our connection with the latex community. We’ve recently launched collaborations with kinksters like @rubber.pup.kronos and @pupcookie1 taking their ideas and bringing them to life. We love a challenging creative project and there’s so many fantastic ideas out there that we want to help make into reality.

Once again it’s been such a humble pleasure to speak with you. From chatting just now it’s fantastic to know that at the heart of it there’s so much care, passion and drive behind you. I’m already planning my next design which I know you’ll knock out of the park!

If this has spurred on a desire to add a new suit to your wardrobe, you can visit the KinkFox website.
I also wanted to give special credit to @rayx26 (RX26) , a fantastic artist who designed the amazingly horny baseball suit!
